Windows 8 microsoft surface password timeouts

is there a way to set a windows 8 tablet up so that when you hit the power button it shuts the screen off but doesn't lock it right away, like when the screen is off there is separate timeout for the password?

I'm not sure if i was confusing enough but if you need any clarification let me know.

in a nutshell i want the device to lock but after a half hour or user initiated, not every time the screen times out because i want to save battery by timing out the screen after 5 mins but not require a password for 30 mins.

no normal windows rules apply.
Simply set the screen saver to not require a password and setup a scheduled task that fires a locking batch triggered on idle - the idle time can be modified here. Google for the locking syntax.
