Delete first 3 or 4 characters in a field

I am doing a simple query and I need to delete the first 3 or 4 characters in the field.  Examples of the field would be:

1. Alex Smith
12. Aaron Rodgers

I only want the name, not the numbers or period.
I think I have done this before with the InStr function.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

run an update query, assuming the name of field is [Name]

update tableName
set [Name]= Trim(Mid([Name],Instr([name],".")+1))
where [Name] is not null
