Unable to Restore Windows to Earlier Time

Hi,

I have recently needed to restore my Windows 7 to an earlier restore point. However, windows goes through all the processes including rebooting windows and at the last point after I log on it reports "system restore did not complete successfully........." Windows goes on to say "System Restore could not access a file. This is probably because an anti-virus program is running on the computer. Temporarily disable your anti-virus program and retry system restore."

I have tried the restore after disabling AVG but the same message appears.

Have you any other ideas of how the restore can be executed successfully?

Regards
Ray

Try:

System restore from safe mode command prompt by typing rstrui.exe <period>

I didn't want to write type rstrui.exe.

so rstrui.exe <period>

Command is: rstrui.exe  (that' all that matters).

Sorry to have confuse you.  :-(

I haven't had a chance to test your suggestion but will do so in due course. I am sure that what you suggest will work but I will need time and care that I do not undue current settings.....
