Laptop takes too long to log off, ot to come back from sleep mode

I have a dell laptop with Windows 7, it suddenly started taking too long to log off or to come back from sleep mode, I have disabled all the applications from start up, but this didn't help at all, the issue still continue, I run ccleaner and run multiple scans for viruses, but no luck, I want to find out if I can fix it without having to reload the OS, any ideas?

Thank you in advance,

Mario G.

is it on a network, is it WIN pro? It sounds like it may be looking for authentication even though it's logging off. When I've seen this before turning off network (wireless) or unplug cable and try it.

No, I don't have it in the network, one of our users takes this laptop home and never has been in the domain at all. I haven't tried turning the wireless off, but I will, when you say unplug the cable, you mean the power cable?

Thank you for the suggestions!

I would clear the memory cache by shutting down the laptop, unplug the power and remove the battery.  Let it sit for a minute or so to make sure all power has left the board.  Then fire it back up.

The laptop is only 1 1/2 old and we don't have many apps in it, I will try your suggestions and will post the results.
