"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

ADO is has disconnected data architecture. Meaning, it connects to the database, grabs the specified data and disconnects it. Therefore it is very efficient when may people works with such a database.

The data it grabs is stored in dataset. Any modification to it when the user is done then reconnect to the database, accomplishes the needed tasks and them disconnects from the database freeing the resources.

ADOdb is a database abstraction library for PHP and Python based on the same concept as Microsoft's ActiveX Data Objects. It allows developers to write applications in a fairly consistent way regardless of the underlying database system storing the information. The advantage is that the database system can be changed without re-writing every call to it in the application.

BTW, because you had the post in SQL Server 2008, my last two post is about ADO. But as explained above, ADOdb is similar to ADO.
