Sip trunks (UK) – do they require provider to install a direct line

Hi
I’ve been reading up on Sip trunks and have become confused. Ultimately my aim is to install a good hosted PBX solution for a company.
They move in in two weeks (UK based) and it shall have a Virgin leased line present providing good internet connectivity (40Mbs each way).

There are various Sip Trunk providers when I search, but the question is (researching on Sunday so can’t phone them) is do I need some kind of internet connection from the Sip trunk provider in order to use their Sip trunk.

For example, can I have the fibre circuit provided by Virgin, but then also a Sip trunk provided by company X and the link to company X’s circuit is made by the fibre link I have from Virgin?

I do hope my question makes sense and I realise it likely highlights a lit of misunderstanding, but answering this question will help me answer this.

Thanks
