Sip trunks (UK) – do they require provider to install a direct line

Hi
I’ve been reading up on Sip trunks and have become confused. Ultimately my aim is to install a good hosted PBX solution for a company.
They move in in two weeks (UK based) and it shall have a Virgin leased line present providing good internet connectivity (40Mbs each way).

There are various Sip Trunk providers when I search, but the question is (researching on Sunday so can’t phone them) is do I need some kind of internet connection from the Sip trunk provider in order to use their Sip trunk.

For example, can I have the fibre circuit provided by Virgin, but then also a Sip trunk provided by company X and the link to company X’s circuit is made by the fibre link I have from Virgin?

I do hope my question makes sense and I realise it likely highlights a lit of misunderstanding, but answering this question will help me answer this.

Thanks

In general: the answer is yes.    Obviously;  if  company X  provides both the SIP trunk, and your IP connectivity,  then there are some considerable avantages --  since you are not traversing another provider's  IP network:   company X's  ability to assign blame for  any issues is more limited,  if they provide both  network IP connectivity for the SIP trunk, and the SIP trunk.

All the better; if company X provides not only the SIP trunk and IP connectivity,  but also the physical connection.

Some, but not many providers of SIP  (VoIP services)  will  require you buy the internet connectivity for the voice from them ----  it does allow the telephony provider to manage the network service end-to-end,  and potentially provide a more reliable VoIP service..
