My customers have decided to go the Dropbox for Enterprise route for data management in the cloud. Since they have roughly 1.5 TB of data to manage currently, I am wanting to put 3TB drives in each Engineering machine that accesses DB and need a good source for reasonably reliable SATA drives at a reasonable price. Hardware cost is a significant issue.  Assistance is greatly appreciated.

That scorpio drive is designed for a 2400 hour per year (light) duty cycle. It is absolutely unsatisfactory.   You need enterprise class drives, designed for 24x7x365.  Go to WDC, hitachi, or seagate and look for the "enterprise" class disks, and get a pair of them for RAID1 use.

Enterprise drives are designed for reliability and continued use.  They cost more, but then again, your data is worth more than $150, is it not?

The data is mirrored on Dropbox servers so your data is safe with the scorpio drives.

Certifications and compliance
Dropbox's storage is SSAE16/SOC1, SOC2, ISAE 3402 and ISO 27001 certified on Amazon S3 and may provide data mirroring across other secure data centers.

With Seagate and WD now the only players in this area, your options are limited. That WD 3TB is a Caviar Green by the way, not a Scorpio. I have a number of them and they are OK, apart from being a bit slow. They are 5400rpm or "Intellipower" vs the Seagate 3TB Barracuda 7200 rpm. Generally now I will go with Seagate as they are faster and cheaper (at least for the moment). However either would be Ok for your application.
