Can I use OWA with Google Apps

Hi

We are thinking of moving from Exchange to Google Apps with Outlook Sync for the desktops.

But can we still use OWA front end when we need Webmail?

i.e. If we use Outlook linked to Apps and we continue with our folder structure for filing our emails.  Will we be able to see this folder structure when we are out and about without our PC using WebMail.  Or do we need to use GoogleMail instead of OWA when not at our PC?

Thanks Terry

You can't use OWA (as it's only part of Microsoft Exchange), but you can use Google App's webmail interface which looks/functions very much like the Gmail webmail.

You will still be able to see your folder structure, although Google refers to them as "Labels". One added benefit of using the "Labels" is that an email can be filed under multiple "Labels". For example, an email from the Finance department regarding Sales might be filed under both Finance and Sales "Labels".

The structure of the "Labels" is the same as folders. i.e. they can be nested under each other and so on.

Hi
Thanks for quick response as I have a meeting about it at 11!

Just to clarify. If I set up some folders with some rules on filing my emails while in outlook, in googlemail web interface it will automatically generate Labels for all these folders?

Thanks Terry

You're welcome.

That's right, the folder structure shown in Outlook should appear down the left-hand side of Google App's webmail.

Have a look at this to see exactly how it all works.

Do labels work both ways?
I.e. If I create a label in gmail, does it create a folder in outlook.  If so how does it do 2 labels on 1 email?
Thanks Terry.

Yes that's right.

Unfortunately Outlook will download the email twice, once for each folder.
