Mirror on Raid controller

Hi,

I have windows 2003 installed on dell server, the disk is mirrored and connected to dell ucs-51 raid controller, looks like the controller not functioning any more.
Is there a way to connect one of the HD directly to the Board and make it run?

No.  Which controller do you have?  SAS 5/iR or a PERC 5/i?  What makes you say the controller isn't functioning anymore ... what exactly is happening?

ASKER

The controller: dell ucs-51
I get the following error message: Fusion-MPT Firmware Fault Code: 8000Eh
1.jpg
"dell ucs-51"

This is a generic description indicating the "class" of controller.  It will either be a SAS 5/iR, which uses CTRL-C to enter the configuration utility, or a PERC 5/i, which uses CTRL-R to enter the configuration utility during POST.  If you don't know, you can look in the box:  the SAS 5/iR has a single SAS connector on it, no memory DIMM or battery connected to it; the PERC 5/i will have two SAS connectors (one white, one black), a memory DIMM, and a battery connected by cable.

Which server is this?

If you need more help identifying the card, what is its Service Tag (serial number)?
Service Tag: GY2ZM2J
PowerEdge SC 440
From your other question (which will probably be deleted soon):

Remove the card and reseat it.  If that doesn't work, then try the card in the other PCIe slot.

If that doesn't work, try clearing the NVRAM (RTCRST) using the jumpers on the motherboard (p. 102):
Hi,

I tried a different PCIe slot, and clearing the NRAM, still same error.

OK thanks, do i have to replace to the same controller, or can I use a  different model?
If you want to simply plug in the old drives and boot up and go, then you must use a SAS 5/iR.  If you plan to do a reinstall/restore, then you could move to a PERC 5/i, although it is not technically supported on this server.  (In my last reply, I listed "SAS 5/6" ... the SAS 6/iR is a newer version of the SAS 5/iR, but it is not supported on this server either, and migration from a SAS 5 to a SAS 6, while it will probably work, is not supported.)
Thanks a lot.
