I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

have you run wuauclt /updatenow /detectnow from those machines?

also try this

wuauclt /reauthorization /detectnow

N-WCommented:
I would run "wuauclt /resetauthorization /reportnow" and wait 5-10 minutes for the computer to report back to WSUS.

Then check the computer in the WSUS console and see if the required updates have been approved for the computer.

When the computer has reported back and is showing there are required updates which have been approved, run "wuauclt /detectnow" and the machine should pickup the updates for installation.

The server has been always there in WSUS, because the servers in WSUS were controlled by Group Policy....
so the issue is with the servers stopped getting updates from last 3 months...
i tried the commands, so far havent seen any updates coming up....will wait more...

10 Tips to Protect Your Business from Ransomware

Did you know that ransomware is the most widespread, destructive malware in the world today? It accounts for 39% of all security breaches, with ransomware gangsters projected to make $11.5B in profits from online extortion by 2019.

When selecting the computer in the WSUS console, does it show a "Last Status Report" as being today?

Also when selecting the computer, where it says "Updates needed:", is the number listed greater than 0?

Click on where it says "Updates needed:", scroll to the 2nd page of the report and confirm that the approval status for the updates is "Approved".

In the WSUS Console have you checked Synchronizations

What do you have for your Syncronizations schedule

What do you have selected for products and classifications?

How often do your computer attempt to get updates. That is in your GPO for WSUS

ok, something strange is happening, we have two wsus servers, one is upstream and one is downstream, now the server in question is not appearing on the upstream server from where we release the updates, but its appearing on downstream server....
Last Status Report was on 9/4/2013
Update needed: 16
Couldnt find approval status...i went through the pages....
I clicked on synchronization...and it was already sync this morning...i did it again...made no difference...

So the WSUS client is successfully communicating with the WSUS server (as the Last Status Report date is today) but according to the WSUS client logs it's not finding any updates to install.

If you want the WSUS client to appear on the upstream WSUS server, you need to make sure two options are set on the upstream WSUS:
Under Options --> Reporting Rollup, make sure "Roll up status from replica downstream servers" is checked.
Under Options --> Personalization, make sure "Include computers and status from replica downstream servers" is checked.

Ok now to let the WSUS client see the updates needed, we need to make sure the required updates are approved. It sounds like they're not currently.

So when you click on "Updates needed:" as shown...
WSUS Console
Does it bring up a report like this?
WSUS Report
As you can see for the server shown, there are two updates that aren't approved. Try running the report on both the downstream and upstream server, if you change the upstream to show the computer that is.

The options that you listed to check, i checked it and they were ticked.

Yes it does bring up a report like that...and it does show in the Status that the updates are not installed...

So how can these updates be installed on the server through WSUS?

All updates by default are not approved
You must approve the updates before they will get installed.
You can set them up to be automatically approved.

Go to wsus console the select options you will find automatic approvals you chose which update classification you want to be automatically approved

I reread your original post.

You have 50 servers running and only three servers are not getting updates on a regular basis.

Is that correct?

How many WSUS servers do you run?

What OS are the three servers that do not get the updates?

What OS are the WSUS servers? Are they DC's or Member servers?

Is WSUS running internal database or sql?

Check the GPO on each of the three servers to see ifg they are pointing to the correct WSUS server.

Service Pack 1 was not installed on these servers. After installing it, they have started to get rest of the updates.

Without SP1 none of the other updates would be applicable.
