problems with permissions

Hi Experts,

I have serious problems with some permissions.
The permission to a shared folder for some user are working, sometimes.
And then sometimes not.
When it is working sometimes, the permissions are set correctly.

But how it comes, that some user cannot connect to the share anymore ?
I have seen windows updates are pending.
And I have seen the backup on the fileserver is still running.

There could be one or more issue involve;

1. Network Issue
2. Permission issue

I would suggest to once backup process gets completed; apply windows update and service packs if applicable and see how it goes.

Can you elaborate how the permission are set on folders. On which folder root or sub folder the permission are lost?

If the sub folder permission are lost it could be due to inheritance causing the issue.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc758122(v=ws.10).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc758779(v=ws.10).aspx

when is the permission lost weekly or at specific time.It could be anu GPO or script causing the issue. You can also enable auditing to trace the same:http://superuser.com/questions/560675/how-to-monitor-folder-permission-changes
When users complain about the problem, do you have to do anything with the permissions to fix the issue?  If so, what do you have to do?

Under the share permissions (not NTFS permissions) set Authenticated Users to have Full Control over the share.  The NTFS permission will still prohibit undesired users from having access to the files/folders.

the problem is, in this location we use a RODC.
Yesterday after appying the updates and booting the RODC, the connectifity to the shares were ok.
So it sounds like then you're not having the issue now.  Can you provide the exact error message received when trying to access the resources is not available?
Eprs_AdminSystem ArchitectAuthor Commented:
not yet, because it is working.
When it was not working, the user can see the share and the folder.
But when you double click the folder, it said, no permission to access....
Next time it happens, let us know what you do to fix it.  That may help us in helping you find the root cause.  I know in this last case you installed updates and rebooted, but rebooting does too many things to help narrow it down.
Or if it's broken and you can't fix it, let us know that as well and we'll see what we can do :).

First step of course before doing anything is take a screen shot of the permissions on the folder they're getting the message on, just to make sure permissions didn't change and make sure the account isn't locked.
