Exchange 2013 - Backup databases or DAG

Which one is preferred? We are using Symantec Backup Exec.

You need to backup DB's only. Passive DB's backup is recommended.

We use Backup Exec for all servers including Exchange. Passive is recommended. You should make sure Backup Exec is updated also. They release service packs and updates periodlicly. Run update through the BE interface by clicking Live Update.
