"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Folder Redirection :- so what gets written to the desktop, library, my documents, get's redirected and saved to their home drive on a NAS. (file server)

The issue is you will need vasts amount of storage, firstly you will need to Audit existing users data, and decide and create a company policy of what user data you are going to store and backup.

e.g. Users Personal Itunes Collection, Users Personal Holiday Photos, are you going to store these in your corporate data store?

Never iTunes personal photos etc..is there a way to audit..tools..
We r thinking of folder redirection as you rightly pointed and also start educating users risks of storing files locally..no backups..policy says no personal files should be stored but we don't enforce..instead of we IT defining a shared folder size of 500 Mb assume ..and then we face a user backlash..wats best strategy to audit and encourage cleanup

It really comes down to Company Policy, because 500MB is small, smaller than most USB Flash Drives, at 8GB and 16GB!

We ask companies to define a policy, work out Home Folder Size, whether quotas will be granted (be aware of the management overload this can cause, if exceeded, and programs do strange things when size reaches zero), and we work on 25% yearly growth.
