2008 server printer driver install

Looking for a best practice for installing a driver on a windows 2008 64 bit server. I have a color HP 451nw printer. Windows 7 PCs will connect to the print server to print. Do you use the latest 2008 server from HP? PCL 6 or not. What is most stable. Am I supposed to download and install the Windows 7 driver instead?

I download the PCL 6 drivers if tehy are newer printers otherwise PCL 5.  I download both 64 and 32 and install both drivers.  When on a print server you dont need the windows 7 drivers, it should pull from the server with no problems (im most cases)

If its just standard 2008 download both 32 and 64.  If its R2 and you have 32bit systems somewhere, use the standard 2008 drivers instead of the R2, otherwise if its 64bit across the board dont worry about it :)

If you can install universal Printer  driver is the most stable use pcl5 or PostScript

The UPD is an interesting choice because the key for me is stability. I can't stand when the print spooler crashes and I have users complaining they can't print. I was wondering about this new color laserjet and if the UPD would print in color, or if it would need the full driver. Thanks. I will test it out.

The upd is fully functional on color topes of paper trys etc. I have seen  problems in some printer drivers x64 with Citrix  printing that resolves with upd

I have 2008 R2 print server, and all my clients use Windows 7 x64 mainly and still have a few 32but windows 7 and xp machines running. I have numerous HP printers such as 6500's and Laserjet m551 500's on my network and i will always download OS specific drivers and use UPDs if these fail!

If you do run into the issue of not being able to connect the xp and other 32bit OS systems you can use the Server 2008 drivers.  Just keep in mind you cannot use 2008 R2 64bit and pair it with 2008 32bit.  The drivers have to identical when it comes to installing both drivers so using the standard 2008 drivers is fine.

The upd is available in 32 bits for clients in 32 bits
