SBS2003 to SBS2011 Migration share names

I'm sure this will be a simple question to answer.

When migrating from SBS2003 to SBS2011 will the existing share names still work ?

ie  old SBS2003  \\server\data

new SBS2011  \\server\data

thanks

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The above answer is not correct.

When you migrate, you cannot call the new server the same as the old server so the old share names need to be updated to reflect the name if the new server.

Therefore:

\\server\data will become \\newserver\data

Hi alanhardistry, I agree with you but this will also be explained in the migration wizard. My thinking was the end result, which is the data folder will be available and the network will presume. Thank you for clarifying.

It depends on what is really being asked I suppose.  The Share will still be available, but mapped drives etc will need to be amended to reflect the new server name in the share path.
