pointing a domain name

I am hosting a site where the domain is registered externally.
The A record of the domain is pointing to www.mydomian.co.uk and my servers IP address.
on the server hosting the site IIS is set so that the domain mydomain.co.uk is created and has bindings for both www.mydomain.co.uk and mydomain.co.uk.
The issue is that the only domain that is showing is www.mydomain.co.uk the address without the www. is pointing to the default for the resgistrars.

What changes do I need to make to get the domain to point to both www.mydomain.co.uk and mydomain.co.uk

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In the DNS admin area of your Registrar /DNS service provider create an A record in the top most level of  mydomain.co.uk containing the IP of your webserver while leaving the name entry blank.

The recommanded way is to use a 301 redirect to www.mydomain.co.uk however. Most DNS service providers let you configure this as well.
