Outlook 2013 not finding searched items first time (Exchange 2010)

If we run an Outlook 2013 search on a string not previously searched for it doesn't come up. If we type it in again and rerun the search it does. The backend server is Exchange 2010.

Is this Exchange no auto-updating its Index? Either way what's the fix.
