SharePoint 2010 File Is too Large To Open

I have an excel spreadsheet within a document library on SharePoint. When I try to open the excel spreadsheet, I recieve an error message saying The File is Too Large. What is going on here? How can I resolve this?

I don't know if you are trying to open it from within the browser or in your desktop app, but maybe this is your problem
