Server 2012 Remote Desktop issue

Hi All,

This morning we are not able to login to our terminal server 2012. The error message we are getting is:

The remote desktop session was disconnected because there are no remote desktop license servers available to provide a license.

Any idea on this ?

We have checked are remote desktop licensing and it is activated.

Any idea?

Help please.

Is this a workgroup server (meaning that there is no Active Directory domain) or domain server (meaning that it is a member of an Active Directory domain)? If the later is the case, the Licensing Server has to be installed on a domain controller.

Go through the best practices to see if you have missed something

Best Practices Analyzer for Remote Desktop Services

Also try to remove the role and add it again

Hope it will help you

The RDS is server is a member of Active Directory domain.  You mean I need to install RDS on Domain controller ?
Where is the License server installed? Meaning can you show a screenshot of the licensing to confirm its running and you have required number of licenses?

Also how long has this been running fine? 4 months? Reason I ask is you have a 120 day grace period before you are forced to run license server properly...or run without actual licenses to put a different way...so I assume this isn't the case?

Also in Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration you've set the license server correctly?
Run the RDS licensing tool on your RDS server.  You should be able to see the licensing server there.

You'll also want to check your DNS SRV records for your licensing server.

Check the following:

you have the RDP license server running OK. no relevant events in eventvwr.
You have valid RDP CALS installed on the license server, for the correct version of RDP (eg 2008, 2012)
Your RDP server is set to use this license server in host config.

If the above are all correct let us know and we'll try to help further.
if one of the above is an issue you should find fixing it will resolve your issue.
