Share this link on ... how can I detect it?

I want to create a "Share this link on facebook/twitter" button on my site where if they click the button, it shares that pages link on facebook or twitter and it would also reward the user on my site for doing so.  So in other words, I need my PHP script to be able to detect whether the user shared the link on facebook or twitter.

Is this possible?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you use sharethis, it looks like the api allows you to hook in for just about any social media.   http://support.sharethis.com/customer/portal/articles/439332-sharing-api#Sharing-Through-Social-Destinations   with direct post to facebook and twitter.  Then on the call back you can do what you need to reward.

While this is a cool idea, I think the best kind of sharing is because people liked your content and not because you gave them something in return.   If you use sharethis, you have one spot where you can track analytics for social sharing.  It will mean more to you if you see one page or blog post shared a lot more than something else vs somebody constantly sharing for the reward.
