Powering down an iPad 2 without the benefit of a working digitizer
Hi, I have a iPad2 wifi 3G model. The glass was broken and must have damaged the cable, because there is no touch in the touch screen. I would like to power it down to replace the glass. Or as an alternative know the consequences of unplugging the digitizer cable and the LCD screen with power applied. Is there a hard non-destructive shut down one of these things? Or as I mentioned above, any experience with working on one without shutting down first?
Thanks

Can anything go wrong hotswapping those parts? Draining the battery is of course an option, but that can take a while if it can't be used.
And I do aready have the parts

You have an interesting definition of "hotswapping" ;)
You need to change the LCD. This means taking apart the whole device. This is a really peculiar process. There is lots that can go wrong. If you feel skilled, do it yourself.
But if you only have little doubts I strongly recommend using a professional repair service.

Buddy, The only Doubts I have is if I can do it with the battery connectted and charged. So if you don't have an answer, not helping much!
Since I do not know you in person, I can only recommend a way witch works for all levels of skill, esp. since you ask a this question.
So forgive me my doubts, take iFixit, and just disconnect the battery one you have the case open. Nothing can go wrong if done right.

Thank you,
My definition of hot swapping is disconnecting anything with AC or DC current applied.
I do understand the procedure and I do have several years of technical experience, Including iMacs. Just not so much with iPads. Sorry I got testy. Just been having a hard time getting any answer to this question.

Only Difficulties here was speaking the same languge. This is not my favorite thing to do but looks easy enough with all the you-tube vids I have watched and all the articles I have read.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off".
If you skilled and want it to repair your self, use iFixit:

If you cant power it down just open it and disconnect the battery. But the battery will most certainly empty before you get the spare part ;)
