Android and iPhone operating systems are not inherently risky, although there are a number of factors that can make them so. Downloaded apps, websites and emails, etc. can all increase the risk of an infection. The information you store or access from the phone can also factor into whether you need protection. Many major vendors now offer malware protection for phones.
