Windows7 Upgrade

I have several PC's that we will be upgrading to Windows 7 Professional.   I have ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor for 64 bit on these machines and I see an "error" for:

Windows Aero support------   Your current graphics adapter won't support the Windows Aero user interface.  If you want to experience the benefits of Windows Aero, contact your PC manufacturer or retailer to see if an upgrade is available.

I am not wanting to contact the manufacturer but try to "fix" myself.    Is this something that has to be done AFTER the Windows 7 upgrade?

For example:  One particular machine has NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS and I have been on their website for upgrade.   It says I have the most recent update.  My driver details show Version

And the NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / NVIDIA nForce 630i shows driver details being same version as above.

What do I need to do to correct the Aero error???

You need to have at least 128Mb of video RAM.

Have you tried disabling Aero (assuming you are on Vista) and trying the upgrade advisor again?

You can easily run Windows 7 without Aero. I do that on my Windows 7 machines because it is not needed. Aero has been removed from Windows 8, so it (Aero) was a one-time wonder from Microsoft. Just do not use it and you should be fine.

It might be refering to the onboard video and not your actuall graphics card.  I see the 8400 GS supports transparent graphics so I think you will be fine.  In all honesty you dont need to use Aero anyway and it is not a requirement :)

Aero is needed for some things, for example the builtin solitaire-like games don't work properly without it. Or the media-center doesn't either. But for normal business work you shouldn't need it.

Otherwise, changing the graphic card is usually no big deal.
Oh and yes, the "NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS" works with aero. I have such a card myself and windows 7 with aero on works fine with it.
