when I try to Turn On Network Discovery, the setting won't "stick". when I restart, it will revert back to "off".

i'm logged in with an admin account, and am stumped. any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Uninstall drivers and get new ones would be my first suggestion. Sounds like your wireless card's driver is not working right.

At a guess using wireless,  the router's wireless  or ISP service needs to be activated first internet is not free.
What internet service is he trying to access?
Plug in an ethernet cable from a router to his laptop ( wired) reboot see if he gets internet now.
Network Discovery works like that

Launch services.msc

Make sue these services are started and set to automatic

    DNS Client
    Function Discovery Resource Publication
    SSDP Discovery
    UPnP Device Host

You can also allow network discovery in windows firewall...then try enabling network discovery.

Article applies to server but  steps works for win7pro too.
