Web server upgrade and AJAX toolkit

Greetings all.

I am preparing a new web server (Windows Server 2008 R2) to replace our existing one.  I have copied over current web pages, some of which use AJAX components such as a calender extender.  The new server does not have the toolkit installed.

I am woefully ignorant concerning AJAX and how it intigrates with Visual Studio and web pages.  I am assuming I will have to install the toolkit on the new web server.  This raises many questions for me, a few being:

1. The new server has VS 2008, but I will most likely be updating and developing pages on my machine which runs VS 2012.  Which version of AJAX do I install?  Do I have a choice?

2.On the web pages where the toolkit is registered (<%@ Register assembly="AjaxControlToolkit"...),  will the page automatically pick up the new toolkit?  Will I have to delete the old controls and install new ones from the new kit?

3. Where is the best place to put the new toolkit on the new server?

More questions may arise.  Thanks for your help.
