"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

Run sfc /scannow, SFC (system file check) will check for modified / deleted system files and will replace core windows files.

If this does nor replace it, please follow the procedure below.

Click the Start button, type folder options and click the "Folder Options" link that appears.

When the "Folder Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "View" tab.

Underneath "Advanced Settings", check "Always Show Menus".

Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

See if this helps:

Click "Start", and then "Run" and type in "Regedit" without the quotes.

Navigate to this location in your registry:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.CUR

On the right pane, double-click "(default)" and set the value to "curfile".

Now go to this location:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\curfile\DefaultIcon

On the right-pane, double-click "(default)" and type" "%1" without quotes.

It sounds like this has started only recently.  If so run a System Restore to a time before the problem started.

If no help see post #27 (and #28)  here

Or possibly Rebuild Icon Cache
