I have an WIN xp pro HP desktop and I have used IE for all the years I have had it.  I downloaded firefox and imported the favorites from IE.  When I try to open it just says "transferring data" and then the page never comes up.

It might be a cookie issue.  With all the tracking junk that Facebook uses everything may not be where it needs to be. Make sure you have cookies enabled in Firefox.  If there is still a problem you might need to delete the Facebook cookies to clear the problem.

have you tried going directly to without using the bookmark?  go directly there by the address bar and log in and then save that bookmark.  Delete the ie bookmark.

On the FF menu bar >> tools >> options >> privacy tab >> show cookies button>> Scroll to facebook; highlight it, and click delete cookie.

But try what mtz1of4 suggested first.  I hadn't thought about the bookmark and it might be that simple.
