Exchange 2010 High level tasks required to merge 2 or more companies to use a single email system

Hi Experts,

Can anyone please provide me with some sort of documentation regarding integrating 2 or more companies into a single email systems?

For example,

Company A acquires Company B. Company A uses Exchange 2010 as email systems and the email domain is companyA.com.

Company B uses Exchange 2003, and their email domain is CompanyB. com

The management has decided all users will have one email address policy, however users should receive emails sent to their individual domains as part of a transition period, later on, they should receive email through a single email domain that could be the name of companyA.com, or a new email domain

What tasks should be performing as part of the migration/integration/transition?

Perhaps you can attach a flow chart, visio high level presentation, blogs/links/docs?

Trust relationship
AD Zones
DNS?
OAB,GAL?
MX records?
Send/receive connectors?

Any other ideas?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

High level steps are below...

- Create a Forest Trust between Company A and B
- Use the ADMT to migrate AD users to company A domain
- Do remote mailbox moves from company B to company A
- Move the MX Records for Company B to point at Company A mail servers
- Create Accepted Domain for Company B (so they can continue to receive mail from companyb.com domain)
- Add additional connectors (if needed)
- Colapse company B domain once all AD objects are moved to company A domain
- Add DC to Company (B) physical site (if you want mail hosted there you will need to also have the DC act as a GC as well)

Hope this helps.
