Windows 2000 Print Server

We currently have a windows 2000 Print Server..

Yep (crazy) I know.
We are in the process of migrating all the printers over to a new print server (win 2008)

But I have a question
Can you install windows 7, windows 2003, windows 2008 x86 x64 print drivers on windows 2000.

I am working on a script that will remap users that print to the old server to the new server.
So I am adding all the printers from the oldserver to my profile so I can test the script

The problem is, alsmot every print ask for drivers...

And sad thing is, some of the drivers I manually install for x64 windows 7 on my local box says it cant find a associated driver.
Who is Participating?
I wear a lot of hats...

As far as I know, Win2K server does not let you install drivers for Win7 and later. The best you can do is to install the driver on the PC and then change its port to the server.
it is rare that a driver for win 7 + will work on an OS as old as 2000.

When installing printers on 2008/2012 to share, ensure you install drivers for x64 & x86 as this ensures most clients will download their driver from the server directly.

This is done in the 'share' tab by clicking 'additional drivers' for the existing share.
