Generating a puppet fact on Scientific Linux 6 for which nVidia driver a card supports

We have many SL6 computers of varying ages. Some have older video cards that do not support the current nvidia driver. We're trying to create a fact puppet can use to determine which driver the card supports - hopefully without us manually having to check against nvidia's website.

Has anyone done this? Anyone know a simple command we can use to determine which driver will fully support the card (so the newer cards get newer drivers and CUDA)?

You can use the following fact to get a list of the video card model.

To determine driver compatibility, you can use repository to update the driver, but I believe it only support the newer version. To update driver on the old card, you may need to manually download it from Nvidia web site.

About how many cards you are referring to?

Sadly, quite a few. I know the NVS285 and lower don't use a newer driver, but I don't know if there is another, later, break.

Have you tried to update with the repository?

If I just update with the repository it will install newer drivers that then break with the older card. nVidia didn't change the package name or make it fail to install even if it no longer supports the older card :(

Yes. However, you should able to use the fact to pull the info and configure the newer model to update with repository.

For the older model, sorry!
