Error when using PSSnapin in PowerShell 3 for SharePoint 2010 to work.

Hello Experts,

In PowerShell I typed the following:
Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell

Once I click Enter, I get the following error message:
Add-PSSnapin : The Windows PowerShell snap-in 'Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell' is not installed on this computer.

Any ideas on how to fix this so I can use the SharePoint cmdlets?

Thank you.

Are you installing this on the sharepoint server, or on a workstation to work remotely? You need to have the sharepoint tools installed before you can add the powershell snapin. This is why you are getting this error message. You have the proper syntax but it cannot find the PS files.

the Powershell snapin for Sharepoint is only available on servers where Sharepoint is installed. To use Powershell from another machine you need to activate Powershell remoting hence connecting to a server session.
