Exchange 2007 Mailbox Restore

Hi

i need to restore a mailbox iof a person who left the company a while ago.

i did follow the following.

http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-restore-exchange-2007-mailbox-store-tape-using-backup-exec-12

http://www.trainsignal.com/blog/exchange-server-2007-recovery

but it wont pick up any mailboxes inside the RSG ?

i then checked backup exec and it restored 28gb into the RSG successfully

backup Exec db restore
i then ran a powershell command and see the following. only 2.02mb in size for the RSG

any ideas what to do ?

10 Tips to Protect Your Business from Ransomware

Did you know that ransomware is the most widespread, destructive malware in the world today? It accounts for 39% of all security breaches, with ransomware gangsters projected to make $11.5B in profits from online extortion by 2019.

It means its not properly commiited to RSG, thats y in RSG its showing the dafault 2 MB which is the same value when you create your RSG.

So please try again with above link the one i have given, it will probabely take you some time but will be sucess.

So you need to delete your RSG and do it in freshly manner, after deleting wait for 15 mins to start with freshone other wise it will dont allow you to create RSG, will probabely give u error.

ok iam busy doing that

as per your link it shows that you must use the view by resource tab ?

i need to restore the old data that was stored on the 2 tapes below on the view by media.

view by media
and per your link it shows to use view by resource?

i can see the exchange and the correct db but the dates are incorrect ?

view by resource

Ahmed786Commented:
No Problem its ok, it depends on setting of dates, so not to worry, just go ahead and select what you are looking for and update us

Ahmed786Commented:
You can also select from media if you remember the media name to which you backed up.

still nothing.

i restarted exchange server , restarted backup server , disabled anti virus...

now when i restore i only get the following 696 bytes with a successful. :S

must the RSG be mounted or dismounted when doing the restore ? will backup exec delete the files after restore ? (i did put the write lock on the tape)

Restore passed but no data was restored

Dont know y its not working, may be some mess going on, if you are not 100% sure for shell command then you may try below symantec article on how to create RSG with console and rest are same from backup point of view.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH51626

Note :- while creating RSG via console you have to wait for 1 minute in each step as it takes time to take the affect, otherwise it fails to do the next step.

thanks for that. that is the document i started working off from the start.

The steps passed successfully

using script to create RSG

This is what i use to do when i perform such things, you should also do the exact same, better to create Log folder under RSG folder.

1)new-storagegroup -Server CROEXCFWP04 -LogFolderPath "F:\RSG\Log" -Name "Recovery Storage Group" -SystemFolderPath "F:\RSG" –Recovery

2)new-mailboxdatabase -mailboxdatabasetorecover "CROEXCFWP04\CROEXCFWP04-SG3-PRIV3\CROEXCFWP04-MB3-PRIV3" -storagegroup "CROEXCFWP04\Recovery Storage Group" -EDBFilePath "F:\RSG\CROEXCFWP04-MB3-PRIV3.edb"

Then i would do below in backup.

Start Veritas Backup, Archive, and Restore
Select The date that you want > Go to  « Actions » << Restore >>

In that It  should be Point-in-Time Recovery (Replay only restored log files)
In the Windows, change the path
Insert the path about Log folder
example : F:\RSG\Log

Only Dismount database prior to restore should be ticked

--

Select « Restore everything to a different location »
Modify the path by « Microsoft Information Store:\Recovery storage group\»

--

Accept to see the progress about restoration and finally it is done, then follow below steps

-----

Start the tools « eseutil » with command line
You will find this tools in : D:\Exchange\Bin\eseutil.exe

Eseutil /cc « F:\RSG\Recovery Storage Group»

---

Click on « Toolbox » on the Exchange console , select « Database Recovery Management » and select mount or dismount the database

---

Select your database and click on « mount selected database »

---

The database is mount

---

In the Exchange Management Shell, use the comand « restore-mailbox »
