new catalog

Hi Experts,

now I have a new catalog, because the old one was broken.
Please tell me how to get back my information for restore.

I have some disks and tapes.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Was the catalog corrupt, or the database. If you had to create a new database, then all of your restore information is still on the server. If your catalog folder was deleted and replaced, then you will have to run a catalog and inventory job on each tape to get that information back.

after I created the new catalog , I am missing all my backup and restore information.
How to get this back ?

When I open some servers with restore, the next screen is empty, so I cannot choose which data to restore.

The database is where all of the information about the jobs and task are located. If you had to create a new DB, then you would have had to recreate your backup jobs. The catalog contains all of the information about your tapes like what information is on what tapes. The link below discusses the catalogs, the information in them, and the default location. These are typically easy to move between servers, but the information typically is not updated unless the media server is rebooted or the BE service stopped and restarted.

If you did not have a copy of the catalog folder, the only way to get information back is to re-inventory and catalog all of your tapes. If you have any files that are corrupted or messed up and you are not at the latest SP, updating would probably replace those problem files.
