Assessment phase vdi

Hi

Can someone tell me what's risk of doing a vdi project without proper desktop and application assessment.
Is it better to go to design phase with an expert judgment assessment based on my user base  or is the right approach to use tools like lakeside and appdna,do a proper assessment and then design my citrix low level design. If we use latter tools do we need experts who have used these tools to analyze data and derive reports which aid us in arriving at hardware sizing and design.
What risks are there if I don't use tools or if I use tools but I don't have experienced resources who knows to use this tool.

What team I need to rollout a vdi project..will just a team of three or four citrix xen desktop or xenapp admins suffice with a pm..will they be able to design a robust solution which I can give to business users..assume each resource has 5 yrs citrix exp.

Obtain a list of Applications from your userbase, and test them on VDI, and see how they perform, create a user group, and Ask your Project Sponsor to sign off the Proof of Concept.

ASKER

Hi

I want to know the pros and cons of going this approach with going with a proper desktop and app assessment. On what basis ill size my vdi based on your approach, what will be timeline impact..are uncertainties more in this approach..my current desktops are xp and target vdi should be win 7..with your approach only based on manual testing ill know whether some applcn s need to be virtualized due to incompatibility.

With your approach how will I rightly design and how will I know who're my users who use high resources of pc..low profile users...etc

You still didn't answer my core question of using tools for assessment or avoiding them before design
