This is a very good tool for conversion, but do NOT use it on android, it is way to flaky

Use the convert function to reduce the video down to match the screen size of your phone. You can use either flv or mpeg4 formats, android can handle both.

To play on android I use Qqplayer

FLV or MPEG4 is supported by default andoid video player right. If that is the case i can use those formats. I am not very good at reducing videos down to match screen size. Is there is a good open source tool which does all that work for me. I just want to watch few videso that are playing on laptop to be played on android phone. I do not want to do any other fancy things.

>>Qqplayer

The default player on ICS handles mp4 and I think it does flv.

vlc is open source and does a great job of conversion. Media->convert/save. You add the file you want to convert, select a destination folder, click the tool icon next to the profile button. The video codec tab has a box for height or width, enter one and it resizes the video keeping the correct aspect ratio. Good lossless compression as well.

qqplayer has played everything I have thrown at it so far (avi, mpg, flv, wmv and others)
