HP Display adapter

I have an HP Elite 83oo with a displayport and a vga port.  My monitor has hdmi, dvi and vga.  I would like to order a monitor cable that plus into display port on one side and splits into two to plug into the hdmi and dvi ports.

There are a lot of cables out there that look like they assume you have 2-3 monitors. Does it matter?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It all depends on what you are looking to achieve.  If you are wanting to use 1 external monitor only, any cable with correct connections will work, whether or not it has more connections available.  If you are wanting to connect to two external monitors, the image will be exactly the same on each both external monitors since they are on the same cable.

I only want to use one monitor.  My monitor has VGA, HDMI and DVI ports.  I assume you mean that even if I connnect all of them, it probably only uses one at at time (not the best one for the job!).

The other issue is that some people say HDMI is better overall (business applications) and some say DVI. Does it matter

HDMI is far better and supports sound, DVI does not.
