Can video card that is 2.1 x16 work in a PCIe x16 slot, which is less than 2.1

I am purchasing a video card which works with a PCI-e 2.1 x16 slot. If I simply have a PCIe x16 slot will it be compatible with the card. The computer is a Lenovo M91p. I am not sure if my slot would be referred to as 1.0?

Yes, the cards are downward compatible :-)

Without the make/model of the card, however, I can't tell you the answer to one other question:   Does the PC have sufficient power for the new card?    ... and does the card require a PCIe auxiliary power connector?  (and, if so, does the PC have one?)
