I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Here's the Microsoft MSDN article on how permissions work with this:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms685981.aspx

Only LocalSystem or Administrator accounts have the correct permissions to start / stop a service according to that MSDN link.

Does abc have sysadmin role assigned?

If you are under Windows Vista or more, running under an administrator account is not sufficient, because the applications do not have administrator rights by default, even when ran by a administrator. You need to start the application with the Run as Administrator option set.

This can be done by going in the advanced properties of either the application or a shortcut that is used to start it.

If you want to set at compile time, go into the project Properties window, Application tab, View Windows Settings button, and change "asInvoker" toward the bottom for "requireAdministrator"
