When our client emails us they get the message below and we do not receive their email of course. Is this a problem on their end or ours?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Do you own smtpout.doXXXXXXXXXX.com?  If not, the problem is on their end.  If so, it sounds like they're trying to send mail using your server as their SMTP host (which is, evidently, prohibited).

Use the mail server tests on www.dnsstuff.com

Get their mx records and do a basic telnet test:

(in command line)

telnet mx1.theirdomain.co.uk 25
ehlo email@yourdomain.co.uk
mail from: someone@yourdomain.co.uk
rcpt to: them@theirdomain.co.uk

Note the output.

Then try the reverse. The route with the error - that'll show you the end that has the problem :)
