[zen cart]How to import attributes?

Hi,

I've setup a new store using zen-cart 1.5.1 and we've CSVs to add products / categories / manufacturers, we are using Easy Populate and it works great, unfortunately, I didn't find any option to manage attributes, we've a huge set of attributes per product and attributes vary significantly.

I bought Magnetic One Store and tested, it does not support attribute export / import. So it's out.

Advance Easy Populate says that it is compatible upto 1.3.9h Check here

Apsona is not responding to my sign-up request and not sending the details.

So, I'm stuck and looking for experts opinion here on how to import / export attributes?

Thanks

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yeah, but it talks about manually adding the Attributes, I didn't find anything related to creating and assigning attributes using CSV import.

I bought it two days ago thinking that it has the attribute management feature, unfortunately, their support team confirmed that there is no option to import/export attributes.

What a shame. I'm sorry I can't help any further. I'll have a look at what other zones this could be in to get a few more bites from other experts.

I"m looking at Store Manager and it quotes on this page about importing products (http://store-manager-for-zen-cart-documentation.emagicone.com/product-management/import-products)

Attributes - Store Manager requires a specific formatting for product attributes. You are welcome to export a few products with attributes and you'll see the format. Also you can see an example below. Please note that you can use Excel to merge your attributes in case you have them in separate columns. You're welcome to contact your administrator for help or contact us and we'll provide you with the formula for additional fee.

That would indicate to me that you can import attributes from a csv file

Thanks Tagit,

I got stuck in some other issue and this attribute import became a low priority one, I apologize for not responding on time.

I'll check this mid next week and will get back to you with details.

I really appreciate and thank you for your help.

Thanks tagit,
The company responded a few days back and I also checked what you shared with me, so essentially both are same. The attributes can be imported, I then figured out that we don't really need this for 2 reasons:
1. These parameters are not required to compare products, in fact we do not need a product comparison system.
2. The attributes are 450+ and very difficult to setup such a huge number, no one actually has time to do this.

So here is what I did, I got product details Excel files and each product row has it's parameters. I saved them as CSVs and assigned the column titles as per the Easy Populate guidelines and imported all the products in the usual way, without any issue.

I then wrote a small script that read all the parameters and stored them with a custom field in the products table as a serialized array, at products_details page, I simply deserialized and showed the values in a nice way.

Here is what the zen-cart store manager's development company "emagicone" suggested:

"Please, try to import  attributes from separate columns, to do this you should create additional attribute field for each attribute. Once it is created, you will get 4 additional options: Option, Value, Prefix, Price. You need to assign attribute value, prefix and price for each attribute column of your file to appropriate attribute options of database in each additional field.
