VMWare ESXi UPS Recommendations

Hi all...

We are building ESXi based servers for clients and have run into issues when power cuts happen

We have UPS connected to the servers but since we can't install Powerchute to the ESXi host itself we've no control of shutting down the host gracefully etc...etc...

Wondering if there is a way to do this correctly? We need a UPS with a network connection I assume? What else?

Can anyone recommend models they've used successfully to get this type of setup working?

Cheers...
Shane

Thanks hanccocka...few follow up questions if you have a minute...

1) The Smart-UPS range - yes these are the ones we normally go with - I assume it doesn't matter which one long as its the 'Smart' range yes?

2) The nic - do some of the UPS's from APC not have a nic embedded in some of their models? Does that not work? Or if not why?

3) The VIMA thing - is that a free download? Or if not what cost?

Cheers...
1. Smart-UPS, make sure it has a smart slot for the Network Management card. Most Smart-UPS units have a slot! (it's covered with a screw plate!)

2. The more expensive Smart-UPS models do have it built in, but we've seen most Smart-UPS models up to 5000, and it's optional. Although I have seen recent 3000 models the card/interface does come as standard.

3. Free download from VMware.
Great...time to go buy some kit!

Appreciate the assistance...many thanks ;)
