Accessing QNAP from outside my network

I have a QNAP nas at home which runs on http://x.x.x.x:8080.

but I cant access 8080 as port is blocked at work.

I tried port redirection so 80 points to 8080 but that gets me as far as the QNAP main page and wont go any further.

Whats the best way around this?

does the front page lead to a redirection page to log in with a url that starts with https:// (emphasis on the "s")

ok I know what your getting at. thanks.

I tried this yesterday but it did not work, today it works.

Basically (partially based on what your saying) when I put in http://x.x.x.x in my browser

(and because I have port redirection on my router from 80 to 8080) the login page comes up fine.

But then when I clicked on the admin page it would redirect to:

http://x.x.x.x:8080 blah blah

so I just change it to http://x.x.x.x:80 blah blah

thanks. you pointed me in the right direction (funny that I tried this yesterday and it did not work. never mind.
