I often confuse with j2ee concepts relating to below topics

1. jsp
2. servlets

what are the best, simple URLs on the net to browse daily to reinforce these concepts quickly with working examples. What are the best books for this.

Please advise.

Any links resources ideas highly appreciated. Thanks in advance

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

JSPs are essentially an additional "language" that allows you to create HTML pages where parts of the pages are built up using Java code executed on the server.

servlets are also Java code executed on the server, but have no direct support for HTML.  They are much more commonly used to return either XML or JSON.

As such JSPs are much more "old school" when web sites were made up of static pages, rather than pages with elements that update dynamically - in response to AJAX requests.  (Ajax is much more commonly associated with servlets than with JSPs).

You can read more about JSPs here: http://www.jsptut.com/

You can read more about servlets here: http://www.cse.iitb.ac.in/dbms/Data/Courses/DBIS/Software/servlets/servlet_tutorial.html

Today, you will be better served learning about servlets than about JSPs.

It's always dangerous to make too sweeping a statement - but I think the days of when knowing how to write a JSP was very valuable are largely behind us.  I think you'd be better served learning other areas than worrying about JSP custom tags etc.

I strongly disagree. Essentially when you use frameworks like JSF or Struts you are using custom tags and you utilise the Servlets technology. Knowing the Servlet and JSP API allows you to master these frameworks as well, since they all based on Servlets.

But dpearson has a point. Today is not essential to master the Servlets technology since all these frameworks hide most of the details for you. But if you do know it then you can understand what's going on under the hood when you make a request or you use a struts tag.
