Wordpress - remove make "comments" option

During the process of setting up my website using wordpress I do not want people to be able to sign up, make comments or post of any kind. I may actually never want anyone else toy post or comment but until and am actually ready to have others interact with me on my website how to I remove this from my website. I notice at the bottom of the few blank pages I ahve created that there is a "Comment" box under a heading of "Leave a Reply"

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In Settings -> Discussion untick "Allow people to post comments on new articles" - this will be the default for new posts/pages.

For existing posts/pages you can change the option by checking/unckecking "Allow comments." in the Discussion Meta Box (you may need to turn the Discussion Meta Box on in the screen options.

Thanks--first paragraph was quick and easy to do; second not so much--can't find where this is. Where is the Discussion Meta Box and/or where is the screen options?
When you are editing a page/post in the top right hand corner, just under your name there's a little button called screen options.

If you press that it will drop down - choose Discussion - then a box called Discussion will be available towards the bottom of the page, which changes the settings for that particular post/page.

If you want to edit multiple pages at once:

1. Go to Posts
2. Check All
3. From Bulk Actions choose Edit, press Apply
4. Set Comments to Do not allow
4. Click update
