File Server Hosting in NatApp?

Hi Friends,

I am going to buy FAS2240-2 for storing my VMs.

can anyone pls advice if I can use the same box for hosting Fileserver to assign some shared network drives to my domain & non-domain windows -7 users? so i will not have to host a separate Win2012 as a Fileserver to serve storage for users.

pls advice & confirm with some useful links.

thanks in advance....

Using the FAS as fileserver will work much better than using a W2012 VM as fileserver.

Performance will be better and you get all Netapp features such as snapshotting and deduplication on your shares.
The new inline compression also does a good job, in conjunction with dedupe, it saves you a good bit on storage.
