"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

My thoughts are that your Group Policy does not allow you to open the application which needs be used to open the link. For instance, if it is a link to a web page, can you open an internet browser? If so, try copying the link and pasting it into the browser. If not, that is your problem.

Next, if the link is a file path pointing to a file, such as '\\c:test.txt' then perhaps the notepad/wordpad application is not allowed via Group Policy. If that is the case, try to open the program that would open the document - in this case notepad or wordpad.

Check group policy and all extensions are enabled. The user states this was working a couple weeks ago and has no knowledge of any changes. Now sure where to look next
