Show line numbers in Wordpress style editor

I am running a Wordpress site on my iMac. I am using Wordpress v 3.6.
Is there any way (or plugins) that will show line numbers when I am in the style editor?
I see the line numbers when using Firebug on the frontend, but then don't see line numbers in the backend when using the style editor.

Thanks
Mark

Did you search the WP plugins?

Of course you could download the file and use something like Notepad++

Hi Gary,

You are right - I don't want to download the file first.

I have searched the plugins and I already have Ultimate TinyMce, but can't figure out if that provides line numbering or not.

I don't believe it does.

It does not.

Question:  Are you talking about getting line numbers in the Visual Editor (that which is used for posts and pages) or the text editor located at Appearance | Editor and used to modify theme files?

It sounds like he's/she's talking about Appearance > Editor since the use of Firebug was mentioned.

I'd follow GaryC123's advice and download the file or you can even just copy and paste into your code editor, Coda, Textmate etc. (which has numbered rows) make your changes then paste into Wordpress editor. Please keep an untouched copy safe until you are satisfied you haven't mucked things up.

There's no UNDO button in that WP editor once you hit save.

There is no situation where this lesson isn't learned more harshly than when you edit a PHP file and leave out a semicolon or a bracket. Trust me...

I'm talking about the text editor when I go to Appearance | editor and then click "style.css"

There is a way to get line numbers for CSS files, sort of.

If you install the Jetpack plugin and activate the custom CSS module, you get a new CSS option under appearance and you could copy/paste the whole CSS file there and use it for line numbers, code hinting, etc.  This is probably not an optimal solution for most themes

Otherwise, I would use an offline editor as the other Experts recommended.
