SBS 2011, Exchange 2010 IMAP and POP3 service crash

Hi All,

Our clients here use POP3 and IMAP to connect their MACs to the server.
Stangely every 2nd day in the past week or 2, the IMAP 4 and POP3 service had to be restarted to get things going again.

Note, the services never shutdown but still had to be restarted.
Upon restart, the following errors came up in event logs.

Can anyone recommend what we need to do??
Secondly SBS 2011 server that we have EXCHANGE 2010 SP1 (Rollup 6) installed.
I am aware that Microsoft doesn't release Exchange SP updates for SBS 2011, but should I manually install SP2 and SP3??

Errors (same for both Pop3 and IMAP) -

Eventid2011 - ServicePrincipalName.RegisterServiceClass returned error code 2146.
EventID1004 - Basic authentication is available over plain text connections.

They do, they're the same updates as for the standalone Exchange Server. I would start by getting the Exchange Server up to date with SP3 and check to see if the issue persists.

how come then these updates do not come via Windows Update??
I don't think you are right about this.
Exchange Server service packs don't come through Windows Update, even for standalone installations. This is because you can't uninstall Exchange service packs, so Microsoft doesn't automatically push the updates.

ok, so I installed Exchange SP3 with Update Rollup 2, but when I restart the server, IMAP and POP3 are having same errors in event logs as mentioned above.
I am concerned, it might break pop3 and imap again.

Have you run the SBS best practice advisor?
How much ram in the server?
How is the free space on the C drive?
manav08Author Commented:
Hi Cris,

We have about 20 users.
RAM is 24GB.
C:\ drive has 62GB off 200GB Free.

I have attached exchange best practice logs report.
Re: OPEN RELAY - This is for internal IPs only such as scanners. Incoming message size is set to 25Mb because of organisation specific requirements. None of this I would think will effect IMAP

My next suggestion is running the Fix My Network wizard and fix anything it finds
manav08Author Commented:
Already did this. Only 4 errors -

1. COuld not configure router -
2. DNS is using a DNS forwarder
3. Exchange SMTP connectors are invalid - Tried fixing last time and it deleted our connector for internal relay
4. Same error as here -

So all irrelevant stuff

whenever pop3 service is restarted I still get this message but since we didnt have problems after that day I think installing service pack was really the solution here
