I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

will it always have the @ sign?

if yes, you just take this code:
declare @d varchar(100)
set @d = 'Sugiran, Malik @ 10/10/2013 6:37 AM '

select @d, left(@d, charindex('@',@d)-1)

just a small addition (pardon pun)

one can always deliberately add the @ symbol, this allows a string without the @ to be  "passed through" as the charindex does not return zero.
declare @d varchar(100)
set @d = 'Sugiran, Malik @ 10/10/2013 6:37 AM '

select @d, left(@d, charindex('@',@d + '@' )-1)
;

declare @d varchar(100)
set @d = 'Sugiran, Malik'

select @d, left(@d, charindex('@',@d + '@' )-1)
;
