Citrix Monitoring Query - Edgesight

1. Why ICA RTT in high when comparing to N\W RRT, It should same right. It happens to all the remote machines.

2 What is the difference between Max n\w RTT and Max ICA RTT as we have latency is very less when comparing to report

3. How ICA AVG RTT is calculated

4. How can I confirm that the issue not through citrix when we face slowness from a specific site

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No.. network RTT & ICA RTT are different.  ICA will usually be higher - it includes not just the network time, but the time to "go up the stack", be processed, and "go back down the stack".  ICA is a layer 6 protocol, while the Network RTT is measured at Layer 2.

Jo Harder can definitely time in with more information.. she lives for the packet dissection :-)

will there be any chance for calculating the RTT for a specific process in a citrix server

I don't believe you can.  I believe the ICA RTT is tracked per-session, not per-process.

Big Business Goals? Which KPIs Will Help You

The most successful MSPs rely on metrics – known as key performance indicators (KPIs) – for making informed decisions that help their businesses thrive, rather than just survive. This eBook provides an overview of the most important KPIs used by top MSPs.

ok,

if my citrix server in india and all app servers are in US, then what is the latency for this?

You'd have to measure it and tell me :-)  I don't know your network setup, or the components inbetween.

Ideally, you want your network latency to stay below 150ms, although you can get up to 250-300ms without too much trouble.  Beyond 300 it starts to feel slow.

when our citrix server in US then ICA RTT is 260 to 290ms, When the citrix server in India then RTT is 20 to 40 ms. Only difference is when we connect session to India citrix server all the app \ back end servers are in US. So now my query how RTT is calculated here

Then you want to use the servers closest to the datasource.  Separating the Citrix servers and the data will penalize you more than anything else.

And the numbers I gave you were for network RTT, not ICA RTT.  You should be fine, but obviously testing is going to be important.  Other considerations are how much client device access you need, printing, etc.

ok, in our environment printing is very very less. Also we tested today.

If I use my US citrix server then ICA RTT is 270 MS and if I use local citrix server then ICA RTT is 3, MS. Now my question is all my back end servers are in US but when i connect local citrix i am getting ICA RTT as 30 MS. Trying to find how it calculating the ICA RTT.

The other consideration is user perception.  If all your data is across the WAN from your applications, and they respond slowly, the users will not be happy.  The flipside of course is if they aren't responsive from the app side because of the connection between the user and the server.

I'd test them to see how it goes.
